There are reasons you shouldn’t get a massage.
Contagious illness, if you have a cold or the flu, getting a massage could make you feel worse: if you are too sick to work out, you are too sick for a massage. In addition, I don’t want to spread your illness to my other clients. Wait until you feel better before coming in.
Recent injury. Wait at least 48 hours after a recent injury before coming in for a supportive massage. Your body needs to start the healing process on its own.
Sometimes (particularly if you have numbness, issues with your bowels or bladder, concurrent fever) even with low back pain you should see your doctor first.
On the other hand, even if you have a serious medical condition, massage can still be beneficial. I just need to know what’s going on with you, and how we might adapt massage to your needs.
For things like localized open wounds, skin rashes, blood clots in your arms or legs (talk to your doctor first) , we just need to avoid the area.
